Kashmir Life Line (KLL) :

Jammu and Kashmir, though the integral part of our nation, has been devoid of certain common necessities since long. One of the requirements is Emergency Medical Services (EMS). The integration of society and cultures is expected to happen through the honest social work in a community geographically isolated due to historical and political conflict, where agencies of the state are looked at with a sense of doubt and fear, without a sense of belongingness felt to the larger society. More than 60% deaths in J&K happen due to unnatural causes as per a report on accidental and suicidal deaths. J&K being an accident prone and conflict affected region the occurrences show an increase in the number of accidents, violent incidents and medical emergencies. The injured succumb to death on the way to the hospital due to lack of on the spot emergency medical care. Such a situation the state is facing for the past so many years warrants procurement of EMS ambulances. Based on mission of Borderless world Foundation (BWF) ‘to develop and reinforce socio-cultural closeness and develop the local society with proper education and Health-Care’, the project ‘Jammu Kashmir Lifeline’ was launched in 2005 post profound thoughts focused on providing round the clock pre-hospital emergency care & transportation (ambulance) service specially for the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir State through Emergency medical service and trauma care ambulances; with an aim to increase its outreach in the interiors, as well as inaccessible terrain; aimed at creating a base for peace in the Kashmir valley that is marred with violence, disharmony, disruption of day to day life, and where ‘survival’ is seen as the only goal.

The idea is to create an efficient, dependable and quality emergency medical ambulance service at all district levels in the State under a well-integrated system, through engaging Corporate CSR and expertise of other organizations working in healthcare. These services are being run in a cooperative manner along with the government agencies, seeking to provide empathetic support, providing requisite expertise. Presently, the partnership with Government Health Services, local hospitals and Border Security Force (BSF) by providing the running cost of the EMS. The benefit of these ambulances is for common population of the valley in the events of emergencies and also support to the security forces. The operational area of the project ‘Jammu Kashmir Life Line’ is Jammu and Kashmir State covering approximately 1.3 crore population. BWF intends to provide at least one ambulances per district in the J&K. It is pertinent to mention that BWF ambulances were used in some of the following incidents:

· As the lack of EMS in the state became more obvious during the floods in September 2014 in Kashmir. BWF immediately to mobilized 10 ambulances for relief operations. · Our ambulance was helpful to carry the chief minister from his residence to Srinagar Airport to airlift him to Delhi in medical emergency. · Our 3 Ambulances were used in the Grand Rally of Prime Minister of India- Shri. Narendra Modiji during his visit to Kashmir Valley in reflecting the confidence the state already has in our service as well as highlighting the need for EMS facilities. · In 2016 uprising, the ambulances provided by BWF proved advantages to many injured victims. The ambulances were running 24*7 during the unrest and helped the state health department as need of emergency medical treatment. The concept of emergency medical services acted as godsend in hour of unrest. Since immediate treatment was provided, to greater extent many precious lives were saved. · We are proud that our two ambulances were also useful after Pulwama attack to render immediate mediacl care and ferry tye injured to nearest medical facility. Till to date BWF has provided 11 such ambulances in the valley operatred by Directorate, Health Services Department (Kashmir), local hospitals and Border Security Force located at Sangrama, Anantnag, Pampore and Srinagar-Jammu highway, Jammu, Kathua, Kupwara, and Akhanoor-Rajouri. Next two are ready awaiting pandemic situation to be cleared and 14th ambulance will be ready in a month’s time. We are deeply grateful to M/s HDFC Securities, M/s Kesari Tours and Travels, for their financial support for our project. BWF looks forward with humble appeal to all generous donors for funding future ambulances to help this humanitarian cause.
