Jammu and Kashmir being an accident prone region and road mishaps being a daily occurrence in the state witnessing an increase in the number of accidents, violent incidents and medical emergencies indicates that there is a huge need to deploy critical transport as whenever a patient has care needs exceeding the current emergency medical service standards.
We are living in a time when the emphasis on preventing damage is greater than ever; the provision of pre-hospital care will be the key to ensure that the lives are not lost due to avoidable circumstances.
Launched in 2005 by the then Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed
This initiative delivers round-the-clock pre-hospital emergency care through a network of Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances operating across border and Line of Control (LoC) areas. The service responds to a wide range of critical situations, including trauma and accident cases, cardiac emergencies, and high-risk pregnancies.
These ambulances have also played a crucial role during natural disasters, periods of civil unrest, and major emergency situations, including the Pulwama attack.
Under this project, 22 Advanced Life Support ambulances have been installed along the LoC in collaboration with the Indian Army, BSF and local health administration. The initiative has addressed critical emergency healthcare needs in remote, rural, and high-risk areas where timely medical access is often unavailable.
While the primary objective remains saving lives, the project has also contributed to strong community acceptance and trust, fostering a positive perception of the Army and government health initiatives.
