Borderless World Foundation is a not-for-profit organization established in 2002 under India’s Societies Registration Act, 1860. Headquartered in Pune, the Foundation works in conflict-affected and remote rural regions of India, including Jammu & Kashmir and other sensitive border areas adjoining India, Pakistan, and China, where access to basic services remains severely constrained.
Guided by the vision of “One Great Human Family,” BWF implements long-term, community-based interventions across multiple focus areas, with gender development at the core of its work. We place strong emphasis on empowering girls through education and life skills, creating economic opportunities, and supporting pathways toward equal participation and fair wages.
Alongside gender development, healthcare forms a critical pillar of our work. In conflict-affected and fragile regions, poor health outcomes often deepen exclusion, poverty, and mistrust making recovery and peace harder to sustain. Access to timely healthcare not only saves lives but also restores a sense of security, stability, and trust within communities. By strengthening primary healthcare delivery through mobile services, emergency response, and community outreach, BWF works to address health as both a humanitarian need and a foundation for long-term peace.
Wherever relevant, our initiatives align with and strengthen government efforts such as Gender Budgeting and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, ensuring their impact reaches communities effectively.
Across all programs, we prioritizes dignity, inclusion, and sustainability for children, women, and families affected by conflict and displacement. While our roots lie in some of India’s most sensitive border regions, our aspiration is to expand our work across all border districts of India, ensuring that communities living at the margins are not left behind in the nation’s development journey.
The human cost of conflict does not end when violence subsides. Children grow up without family support, women carry the burden of survival, and communities live in prolonged uncertainty.
Conflict disrupts social systems, fragments families, displaces livelihoods, and weakens institutional protection mechanisms. These impacts persist long after violence ends.
Vulnerable populations are frequently excluded from mainstream recovery and development processes. Emergency attention fades, but needs persist in regions where few organizations sustain long-term presence.
Borderless World Foundation exists to address this gap. We work in regions where few organizations sustain long-term presence, ensuring continued access to healthcare, rehabilitation, education, gender development, and livelihood support for communities affected by conflict and displacement.
Guiding principles that drive our work
One Great Human Family without borders
A society where every human being irrespective of caste, gender, economic condition and religion is able to live with dignity and respect and is empowered to make their own decisions and lead a self-reliant life.
To join hands and build bridges
To work with deprived, excluded, and vulnerable communities through participatory and community-led approaches that promote dignity, inclusion, and long-term well-being. BWF seeks to sustain peace and development by strengthening local capacities, enabling informed decision-making, and collaborating with institutions, partners, and like-minded leaders to create measurable and lasting social impact.
Adhik Kadam is an Indian social entrepreneur and philanthropist with over two decades of experience in peacebuilding in Jammu and Kashmir. He holds a Master's degree in Political Science and began his engagement with humanitarian work as a volunteer with various non-profit organisations.
In 1997, at the age of 19, he first travelled to Kashmir, where he witnessed the realities of displacement and conflict, including conditions in Kashmiri Pandit refugee camps. During the Kargil conflict, he worked on the ground to support displaced families. He later contributed to a UNICEF-supported project focused on children affected by armed conflict in the region.
In 2002, he co-founded the Borderless World Foundation (BWF) to support children affected by conflict, with a focus on education, care, and basic needs.
Despite being kidnapped by militants and detained by security forces, he remains dedicated to his mission. Living a minimalist lifestyle, he views his work as a spiritual journey, dedicating his life to serving those affected by conflict.
