A dedicated Women Development Centre in Kupwara supporting young women in building skills, confidence, and economic independence
Women play a central role in shaping families and communities. Recognising this, Borderless World Foundation established Rah-e-Niswan, a dedicated Women Development Centre in Kupwara, to support young women in building skills, confidence, and economic independence.
Rah-e-Niswan functions as a safe, women-led space where girls primarily from BWF-supported homes develop entrepreneurial, leadership, and financial management skills. As one of the first women-only workspaces in the area, the centre enables participants to learn, work, and lead with dignity.
The centre supports multiple skill-based units that provide both employment and long-term livelihood pathways:
To address menstrual hygiene challenges while creating sustainable livelihoods, BWF launched the Happy Choice sanitary napkin initiative. Entirely managed by young women, the programme covers production, packaging, branding, and distribution.
Along with improving access to affordable and hygienic menstrual products, the initiative builds technical and managerial skills and has received national recognition for its impact on health and women's empowerment.
This initiative provides hands-on training in computerised embroidery, digital design, and production management. Participants manage the full value chain from design conceptualisation to finished products strengthening creativity, technical expertise, and entrepreneurship.
Through tailoring and fabric painting units, women are trained in stitching, pattern-making, and hand-painting techniques. The units produce items such as bed sheets, pillow covers, and traditional Kashmiri attire, helping preserve local art forms while enhancing employability and income generation.
Your support helps us provide skills training, entrepreneurial opportunities, and economic independence to young women, empowering them to lead with dignity and contribute to their communities.
