Project FAH: Facilitate and Accomplish with Humility

Jammu initiative of Borderless World Foundation providing holistic development for girl children from migrant camps

Project 'FAH' is the Jammu initiative of Borderless World Foundation (BWF) in 2009. FAH works with girl children who have so far been living in migrant camps in Jammu. These children belong to Kashmiri families (mostly Hindus) who had to flee the valley almost three decades ago because of militancy.

Life in migrant camps and the various constraints—space, financial, environmental, etc.—that come with it have hampered the development of children living there. In the camps, the entire family has to live in a single room, and the concept of privacy does not even exist. Living conditions are poor, and there are no playgrounds or recreational facilities for children.

Challenges in Migrant Camps

For many families, financial paucity is also a source of concern and directly affects the quality of a child's education and her life. The social fabric of the community living in camps has been severely damaged, making issues like drug abuse, gambling, domestic violence, marital discord, etc., rampant.

Our children, as they say, are our reflection and hence tend to mirror the behaviour they see. To tackle these problems, it is important that these children get to live in an environment that is free from such negative influences and is conducive to their overall development.

Key challenges in migrant camps

  • Entire family living in a single room
  • Financial constraints affecting education
  • No playgrounds or recreational facilities
  • Damaged social fabric and negative influences
  • Mental state of fear and insecurity

A Safe Haven for Growth

BWF provides such a residential facility outside the camps. Recently we have shifted children and staff in our own new building "Balika Ashram". At Project FAH, we aim at the holistic development of camp girl children through culture-specific interventions to ensure that they reach their maximum potential.

We constantly strive to provide an environment where learning and fun go hand in hand. We believe that our ultimate aim is to give our children wings while making sure that they have their roots.

Our Approach

  • Holistic development through culture-specific interventions
  • Environment where learning and fun go hand in hand
  • Preserving cultural roots while giving wings to dreams

Holistic Development Programs

They were immediately in need of residential facilities with food, security and shelter on top priority. BWF chose to rise to the occasion and provide them the shelter along with educational facilities. Both projects concentrated on holistic development of children providing not only education but also took care of their health, physical fitness, hobbies, talents and personality development.

Other than the regular subjects, BWF tries its best to inculcate culture right from the beginning among the students. We take care of their health through regular medical check ups, conduct physical fitness classes, counsel them for their future, encourage them to participate in sports and participate in the extracurricular activities in the school activities.
